Jazz is at once angular and smooth; at once melodically subversive and harmonically rich. Jazz is not ever the same. Jazz is not a business, its gets up in somebody’s business. Jazz asks questions in roundabout ways, but beware! If one doesn’t pay attention, the question will be asked and there is only so much space for an answer. Some will restate the question, sometimes the entire band will; but does one want an answer? With words or tones? In fragments, complete sentences, stories or parables? Don’t worry, there is only one wrong answer, and that is when it is not your own.
